Frequently Asked Questions
Both generations of Video Doorbell send notifications to your phone, tablet and PC when anyone presses your doorbell or triggers the built-in motion sensors. When you answer the notification, you can see, hear and speak to visitors from anywhere.
Regarding main differences, the new Video Doorbell has 1080p HD video (vs 720p HD), customizable motion zones, and a revamped mounting setup that simplifies removal for battery charging. The new Video Doorbell also has improved audio quality and crisper night vision.
If your installation area is frequently very cloudy, this could limit the amount of sunlight that your Ring Solar Panel receives. Ring Solar Panel does require direct sunlight, so filtered/indirect sunlight through the clouds would not provide a charge to your doorbell.
Ring recommends at least 3-4 hours of direct sunlight, depending on your usage. You will want to make sure there are no obstructions that could be casting a shadow on your Ring Solar Panel such as an extended roof, trees, bushes, etc.

Video History, Saving, and Sharing
Your Ring videos and photos that are stored in the cloud are stored temporarily according to your plan’s retention period, e.g., videos up to 60 days in the U.S., Snapshot Capture photos up to 7 days.
Extended Warranty
Extended warranty coverage applies to eligible Ring devices, provided you subscribe to Ring Protect Plus or Protect Pro during the original warranty period, until you discontinue your subscription. Non-Ring and other third-party devices are not eligible for the extended warranty.
